Lucky Seven likely to be towed to Jaigad tomorrow

Panaji: The underwater survey and repairs of the MV Lucky Seven were completed on Tuesday and the vessel owners are now preparing to tow the vessel to the Chowgule Group's Lavgan Dockyard at Jaigad, Maharashtra. Though final approval from the Indian Register of Shipping is awaited, the owner of the vessel, Golden Globe Hotels, plans to tow the ship to Jaigad on October 13.

MV Lucky Seven will be towed to the dry dock where it is likely to spend nearly two months in repairs before returning as a full-fledged casino and entertainment vessel. "The salvagers have surveyed the vessel and successfully patched the damaged part. There is no ingress of water now," company director Lakhram Goyal said.

Lucky Seven will be towed at a slow speed of two nautical miles per hour by offshore tug Maria which has a 60 tonne bollard pull. Tugboats NP Enakxi, a 20 tonne bollard pull, will escort Lucky Seven and remain on standby throughout the operation.

Salvage firm AMS Marine LLC will oversee the towing operation and repairs of the vessel at Jaigad port, where the damaged portions of the double-hulled bottom will be replaced.

"AMS will continue to remain with the ship at Jaigad and the repairs of the engines will be done by them. Parts of the engine have to be replaced and it should take us a month to repair the ship," Goyal said.

The 66.11m-long vessel had suffered a 12m-deep crack at its bottom in mid-August, and the propellers were also damaged after the vessel ran aground on Miramar beach.

"We are working on the recruitment for staff, already 60 people have been recruited. Once the vessel is ready, then we will be entitled for all facilities in Goa," Goyal said.
