Govt revokes suspension of former additional collector Sabaji Shetye

Panaji: The government has revoked the suspension of former additional collector (North) Sabaji Shetye. He was caught red-handed while accepting a bribe of Rs 25,000 for a no objection certificate (NOC) to store explosives and suspended thereafter.

Shetye has been posted as officer on special duty (OSD) at ESI Hospital, Margao, as per the personnel department's order.

The vigilance department's anti-corruption branch had arrested Shetye on June 6. He was later released on conditional bail.

A consultant Nishikant Pai Kurade had filed a complaint against Shetye with the vigilance department stating the additional collector was demanding bribe to issue necessary certificate for storing explosives.

Kurade had approached the anti-corruption branch (ACB) of Goa police with an audio tape to support his case.

ACB had said that Shetye, who had demanded Rs 1.5 lakh from the consultant to clear his files, had allowed Kurade to pay the money in instalments.

Shetye began his career in civil service in 1998. Initially, he served as a mamlatdar and then as deputy collector before being promoted as additional collector. He was posted mostly in North Goa.
